  i was brought up as a witness since 1971 in my heart i never trully belived but always wanted to please my parants and peers when i got married and had children i stopped going about 10 years ago before this i had suffered with depression and self loathing.

  now iam a free man.

  right so i have a younger cousin that works with me (helped him get a job with my company because in s.a you gotto pray you know someone who can help you get a job).

  as you know i've left the borg - he's still very much into it.

  so yesturday myself, him & a mutual college go off for a lunch at the keg - we order our food and when it comes, he bows his head and prays....silenty - the waitress comes over and thinks he's fallen asleep (narcarpsy sp???

  You're right about this sweet tee. My dad "blesses" his food, and he doesn't even go to church. All my family members in North Carolina are deeply religious (Baptist) and the same goes for them.

  chia - I didn't know if it was just a Michigan thing or what? lol . They can almost make you feel quilty for not blessing your food! Actually, some overlyrighteous will call you out on it.

  lula - I understand what you're saying still. To bow your head long enough for everyone in the place to wonder what the h**l is wrong with you is beyond a blessing "dearlordthankyouforthefoodinjesusnameamen" That's all it takes.

  I remeber once my husband was giving one of the AA prayers (Adam to Armageddon) and my two year old daughter started patting him on the arm saying mAmen daddy, mAmen

  I always prayed in public over my meals and still do. For me it's not a showy display but more of being consistent in habits and little rituals. I have caught the attention of others on a couple of occasions and been commended. Most African Americans I eat with will 'bless' their food in public - and none of them are dubs (honestly!!!).

  i have been a regular visitor to this forum for the past 2 years or so, finally i got the courage to register.. you guys are an inspiration , your stories and experiences have helped me to take a stand against this controlling org.. in short, i was raised from birth as a jw, parents are from the old school very much hard liners, the society is their god.

  is expected of you, get baptised as a teenager become a ms then elder.

  i always had my doubts about the society and its teachings but was.

  I've always admired Cruise's talent (among other things about him ). I've observed him for years and he's really acting kooky lately. I hope that acting like a religious NUT doesn't hurt his acting career.

  As for Katie, someone DOES need to warn her before she gets sucked into the cult-crap-trap. She ought to be encouraged to do her OWN research on this bizness.

  As for the relationship - something about it doesn't sit well with me. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's my cult radar.

  I agree. BOTH sides should be represented. We know that the current R&F can't tell the whole truth without fear of repercussions. That's something that PBS needs to understand: Witnesses will only say what they are PROGRAMMED to say. You can't get any more biased than that.

  at the portland maine district convention that was held this past weekend, brother buck from brooklyn bethel gave the last talk on sunday.

  in this talk he mentioned the "millions of people that have left" in the recent past.

  he also mentioned them in the concluding prayer.

  A Moral Dillema... and ideas?

  okay, background info;.

  my ex-wife is threatening to cut contact between me and my daughters (12 and almost 15).. she has done a great job of being the parent with the lions share of rasing them (especialy as she's become inactive) and has always resisted 'excessive' involvement as well as always being resentful and obstructive of contact with them, down to them not feeling comfortable to call me due to her reaction.

  last year my x cut off contact for three month as she was 'under stress'... or more accurately, i'd asked to have them for a week in the summer holidays and she can't stand to see me have anything that makes me happy even if it spoils things for her daughters.... this year, in addition to repeating the request for holidays, i spoke to her about a few problems i'd found out about regarding my daughters.

  You have every right to parent your children. Do what you think will be the most effective in getting you time with your famiy and no matter what the outcome, let them know somehow that you're there for them. It can make a world of difference when they (hopefully) walk away from the borg.

  I grew up without my father (his choice), mom grew up without her father (his choice) and my children are growing up without their dubdumdummy father (again, his choice). Even though I totally disagree with the JW faith, and I know that what teeny-tiny time he spends talking with them he slips it in - I don't care. It's HIS right to influence his children - if only he understood that it is also his obligation before God. But we know the dubs don't think like that. It's the Borg first - everyone else NEVER! Family? "We're you're family' (barf).

  The Story of Uncle Malcolm

  this is a great story and its totally true.. peter kay says that when you are a kid you have loads of aunties and uncles, your uncle bob because he once borrowed your dads orbital sander and your aunty mary because your mum goes to weight watchers with her.

  i thought it was a witnoid thing, or maybe a north of england thing, or even a 70's thing.. uncle malcolm was (is) an elder in my childhood congregation, a little wiry bloke in a flat cap and painters overalls.

  lived in a council house opposite my nana's with the ample aunty jean, two large shiftless sons and lots of budgies.
